“Jamaica recorded 100 road fatalities in the first 102 days of this
year as efforts to encourage greater care on the road continue to
fall on deaf ears.” - Gleaner report, published April 13, 2015
Did you find those statistics incredible and disturbing as we did? Then you can understand why we at
NCU FM feel our newest feature “Roadwise” is the most responsive and socially responsible medium
to signpost our intentions to put road use and road behaviour under the national spotlight.
What is Road-wise?
Roadwise is a short feature that educates listeners on responsible, safe and courteous road
use. The feature informs road users (motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians) on their legal
and safety obligations, as well as road accident prevention tips. Roadwise generally
encourages listeners to drive, ride and walk with care.
Authoritative sources will answer questions on defensive driving practices, personal
protective equipment/products and vital processes involved in owning and maintaining a
road-worthy motor vehicle. Energy and environment conservation may very well enter the
discourse at times.
Are you a driver or learner driver? Have a burning question on how to solve a problem with
the Transport Authority? Looking for some troubleshooting tips for that radiator or engine
problem? Need information on road closures or how to obtain a road license, or advice on
whether you need a third party motor vehicle insurance or comprehensive? Or do you just
need to brush up on your knowledge of the Jamaican road laws? Tune in to Roadwise on
NCU FM at 91.1, 91.3 and 91.5 for your 5-10 minutes of road wisdom twice weekly.
