Title : MODERN MUSTARD-A NOVEL APPROACH FOR
AUTOMATED IRRIGATION
Abstract: The rainfall of our country is dependent on the monsoons. Rainfall controls
our agriculture. But the agriculture of our country is said to be, "the gambling of the
monsoon" as the monsoon rainfalls are uncertain. In areas with unreliable rainfall,
watering crops is essential! Imagine if an industry had to depend entirely on the
whims of mother nature: if it rains, we'll make a profit, if it doesn't, we'll
lose...Irrigation ensures a constant supply of water, which is essential not only to
crops growing at all, but also to the quality of the crop. You can't really eat potatoes
which have received patchy watering, and many other crops would not form properly
in the absence of water.
Manually operated irrigation systems consume a lot of time and are certainly not
efficient. Therefore keeping in view the importance of irrigation we try to take
agriculture to a new level of automation which involves both man and machine
working intelligently.

3. This project deals with introducing an Automated irrigation approach to efficiently
utilize time and manage things remotely. To automate the irrigation system and
remotely access the same, we use interfaces such as embedded systems,
microcontrollers, control switches, android application. We use a new technology
which replaces a computer with its miniature outlook but functions same as the
computer called “Raspberry Pi”.
Role: Designing, Coding site module, Control Swtich connection, connectivity with
Android mobile phone.
 The project has been selected for the second round of QUEST ‘Ingenium
2015’.
