Joshua 22.13-20
CB OT p. 365-367
"The nine most terrifying
words in the English
language are:

'I'm from the
government and
I'm here to help.'"
These also are sayings of the wise. Partiality in
judging is not good. Whoever says to the
wicked, “You are in the right,” will be cursed by
peoples, abhorred by nations, but those who
rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good
blessing will come upon them. Whoever gives
an honest answer kisses the lips.
                      (Proverbs 24.23-26; CB OT p. 1035)
Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
                 (Proverbs 27.5; CB OT p. 1039)
It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the
wise than to hear the song of fools.
                        (Ecclesiastes 7.5; CB OT p. 1054)
Whoever rebukes a man will afterward find
more favor than he who flatters with his tongue.

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any
transgression, you who are spiritual should
restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep
watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.

Restoring with Gentleness
Restoring with Gentleness

I will be courageous to lovingly
restore a brother or sister who is
     sinning.
Restoring with Gentleness

I will focus first on God, then the
     whole congregation.
Restoring with Gentleness

I will be clear about the nature of
the sin and the consequences of
     the sin.
Restoring with Gentleness

I will be ready to sacrificially help
the sinner overcome the sin by
     offering a real solution.
Restoring with Gentleness

I will provide an opportunity for a
     response and authentically listen
     to the response.
