                             Quarter 2: Research Project

You must submit a (5-7) paged, typed, double-spaced paper, which will cover the following:

Research Paper:

    Information about a specific career in which you are interested. You should include
     information such as: the nature of the work, the environment, the education, skills,
     training and personality traits required to be successful, average salaries, the labor market
     outlook, related positions, typical employers, etc.

    A description of the typical career path one follows as he/she advances in this career.
     What is an entry level position? Is there more than one path one could take? What are the
     middle to upper level positions?

    In order to complete this project, you must conduct an informational interview with a
     person who works in your field of interest. A sense of reality can only be obtained by
     actual contact with a person who holds a job in a field of your interest. This interview
     must be face-to-face only. 15-20 interview questions must be submitted to me for
     approval before the interview is conducted. Your final paper must include the
     informational interview form provided along with a copy of the thank you note you sent
     to the person interviewed.

    Offer your own reaction to the above sections. Describe your satisfaction in working in
     the career field you’ve investigated. How has this research confirmed or changed your
     plans and why? Are there any areas in which you need to continue to develop skills?
     Which aspects of the field/position do you like/dislike and why? Thorough and
     thoughtful analysis is critical to this section. Give specifics.


Required Sources: you must have a minimum of (5-7) sources, which must include a required
interview and any books, periodicals, newspapers, professional journals and websites. All
sources must be listed on your Works Cited Page in proper MLA format (See sample).


Grading: This project will count for a majority of your 2nd Quarter grade, in addition to being
the Final Exam for the course.

    Process Grade- ( Rough draft # 1, Rough draft # 2, Interview, Peer Editing, & Teacher
     Conference)
    Content Grade -(5-7 paged, typed Research paper)
    Grammar Grade

Interview: Each student must interview a person in their field of choice, which will be included
in your research findings. The interview must be in-person and preferably a non-family member,
so your findings have an objective point of view.

Formal Thank You Letter: A typed, formal thank you letter must be sent to the person you
interviewed for your project, and a copy of this must be handed in with your paper.
