Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) was developed from two traditional family therapy models and focuses on emotional bonds between partners in a relationship. EFT can be integrated into family therapy by addressing emotional connections within the entire family system. Implementing EFT for same-sex couples may impact their relationships by helping to strengthen emotional intimacy, as the therapy aims to do for all couples, but cultural factors could influence its efficacy for some same-sex relationships.
