Aamby Valley, Independent India’s first planned hill city has conducted a unique expedition to Mt.
Shivling from 14th April till 20th May under its CSR initiative called AambyAbhiyaan. As part of the
expedition the Aamby Valley City team has conducted free medical check-up camps along with water
testing, school kit distribution and deworming in 21 villages in the Gangotri region, from 1st to 4th
April 2013. The team of 5 climbers was led by Mr. Narinder Singh who is an employee at the adventure

Phase 2: First Successful Group Expedition of Sahara India Parivar to Mt. Shivling (6543 meter.): Mt.
Shivling is a mountain in the Gangotri group of peaks in the western Garhwal Himalaya, near the snout
of the Gangotri Glacier. It lies in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, 6 kilometres south of the
Hindu holy site of Gomukh (the source of the Bhagirathi River). The height of mountain is 6, 5413 m. It is
well-defended on all sides by steep rock faces; only the west flank has a moderate enough slope for
snow accumulation. Mt. Shivling is one of the difficult peaks in Himalayan ranges, for a mountaineer.
Hence it wasthe ideal choice forthe AambyValleyCityteam.
This was Sahara Group’s first Group Mountaineering Expedition. Aamby Valley City (Sahara India’s prime
project) has an Adventure Park (19° North) and possesses a qualified mountaineering professionals. Mt.
Shivling is less preferred by the mountaineers because of its technicality (rock ridge, ice wall etc.) and
non favorable weather conditions. But we chose to climb the same considering the potential and the
confidence of the team.
The expedition team had gone through various challenges starting from procuring the approvals of the
government of authorities as the team was the first mountaineering team of the season. The team
openedthe route till Tapovanbefore PWDandhadto face variouschallengesenroute.
The team started with expedition on the 17th
of April 2013. The expedition team had various challenges
due to bad weather. Even at Tapovan (14,800 ft.) the conditions were not favourable, as the whole
ground was covered with 4 ft snow. But the team without wasting the time immediately opened up
Camp 1 (17,000 ft.) and Camp 2 (18,400 ft) in two days. But later on team faced regular awful weather
conditions. There were four attempts made by the expedition team for the Summit, where the last
attemptwasawarded as Summitbythe IMF institute.
(2) Scuba Diving with UnderWater Cycling,Goa

January to 6th
January 2013
When I returned from Mt. Elbrus, was desperate to attempt on Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa’s highest
mountain). The planning was almost complete, just wanted the permission from AVC to go ahead. But
destiny had something else in mind and due to some unavoidable circumstances couldn’t execute the
same. But the time was killing me and I had to do something, hence chose to set a unique record that no
one inIndiaattemptedbefore,UNDERWATERCYCLING…!
I am not a good swimmer, but I knew that am a good cyclist, and what I need for cycling is terrain, mayit
be under water. That’s it, took out all the necessary information about the particular attempt, planned
everything and short listed the destination Goa. When presented the idea about “Under Water Cycling”
to seniorsthey were amazedtoowithanideaandalso thatfrom where Iget suchinspirations!
The intention was not just to set a record but also to create an awareness regarding Climate Change,
which gelled well with the thought. Practiced for four days in Goa and attempted on fifth day, where
cycledfornearly100 metersunderwaterwiththe use of artificial oxygen!

PostMt. Everestsummit,itwasfirminmy m
ind that my next objective is to conquer all the highest peaks in Seven Continents. Of course the
intention attached to it was to make people aware about the “Climate Change”!Hence, in April 2012,
shortlisted Mt.Aconcagua6,960.8 m (22,837 ft), South America’s Highest Mountain and Mt. Elbrus
5,621 m (18,442 ft.),Europe’sHighestMountain.
Applied for Visa to both the countries, couldn’t get the visa for South America, but received visa for Mt.
Elbrus, Europe. Contacted M/s Seven Summits (An active organization in Russia who conducts high
altitude expeditionsinthe region) andregisteredforthe Mt.ElbrusExpeditionwiththem.
The conditions at Mt. Elbrus, Russia were unbearable as the temperature was -25 to -30, throughout the
Expedition, but the team was very supportive and my aim was firm. On 29th
August 2012 I was standing
on the top of Mt. Elbrus. It was a great feeling, not because the expedition was successful but I was able
to carry the name of Sahara IndiaPariwarand AambyValleyCityatopMt.Elbrus.

May 2011)
“I am thrilled to have scaled the perilous heights of the Mount Everest. It gives me great pleasure to
have been able to make my country and company proud. It was a difficult journey, with low air supply,
unbearable cold and other obstacles; but support from my friends, family, colleagues and well wishers
kept me going. Also I would like to thank Aamby Valley, as all the training and experience from my work
there,reallyprovedextremelyhelpfulwhile preparingformyjourneytothe peak”.
Aamby Valley City is proud that valued team member Narinder Singh, (that time OBT Instructor) in
Adventure Sports Department of Aamby Valley City, who have climbed The Highest Peak of the World-
the Mount Everest. He achievedthisfeatonthe 20th of May 2011 at 10:30 am.
The expedition was flagged off on the 16th of March 2011, in Delhi by the Labour minister. 10 countries
participated and there were 17 people, out of which 6 were from Haryana (India). The troupe reached
Kathmandu on the 17th of March 2011, where they were trained for 10 days, post which they trekked
up to Lukla (Kathmandu) in 8 hours. The team’s next destination is the Iceland peak which is 6600
meters above the sea level. Finally on the 16th of April the team embarked on the journey to conquer
Mt Everest.
Fortunately I was also able to set up another record of staying at the peak for an hour without oxygen,
which is registeredinthe Limca Book of records!
Another aim was to contribute towards lessening the effect of global warming. Hence we cleaned up
500 kegsof garbage dumpedbyotherclimbersonEverest!
Another proud moment happened when University of World Records approached to award the
Doctorate in the Records! For the same they invited me to Vietnam to grant the Doctorate on 22nd
September2013.

Another aim was to contribute towards lessening the effect of global warming. Hence we cleaned up 500 kegsof garbage dumpedbyotherclimbersonEverest! Another proud moment happened when University of World Records approached to award the Doctorate in the Records! For the same they invited me to Vietnam to grant the Doctorate on 22nd September2013.
