To whom it may concern,
I have known Paritosh Mehta since 2010 while he was working as Director of Independent
Production Development at OMNI Television (a division of Rogers Media Inc.) Paritosh
commissioned five of my documentaries between 2010 and 2015; Brooks – The City of 100 Hellos,
Nature’s Invitation, Grey Glory, Grey Ambition and Becoming Albertan.
These films were made in multiple languages and concentrated on important social issues
such as immigration, integration and the health of seniors. The films went on to win awards at film
festivals and to air on other networks such as the CBC and PBS.
Paritosh has always kept on top of the changing media landscape and has evolved with what
is being asked of creative producers. Paritosh personally helped me to develop as a professional
full time documentary filmmaker, providing me the opportunities to grow and evolve from the
traditional one hour documentaries I was making for television into creating shorter content for
web and online, as well as making an interactive website and app. I have spent time with Paritosh at
both the Banff World Media Festival and the The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary
Festival where he was connecting with many independent producers he has working with, while
also keeping abreast of the latest trends in Canadian television.
Working with Paritosh as a commissioning editor was a great experience. He has a wonderful
disposition that is encouraging and helps new filmmakers to do their best work. Paritosh was a
mentor to me, providing me with guidance regarding the films I was making for OMNI TV while
offering helpful career advice. During his feedback on my films’ rough cuts, he always had creative
solutions and helped to improve the documentaries. Paritosh is also very knowledgeable and
efficient when it comes to dealing with business affairs.
Paritosh leads the way when it comes to diversity in the media. Over the years he has
commissioned documentaries that give a voice to many new Canadians; stories that otherwise
never would have been heard without his support. He has helped countless new filmmakers to
pursue a career in television by giving opportunities and guidance.
Paritosh is kind, creative and hard working. He would be a great asset to any organization.
Sincerely,
Brandy Yanchyk
