This document defines and provides examples of the key elements of a narrative text. A narrative text tells a story, event, or activity using simple past tense and clauses to indicate time. It generally has an orientation to introduce characters and setting, a series of events that unfold, and a reorientation to conclude the story. Examples are given of using orientation to set up a family party, events when the power goes out, and reorientation when power is restored and the celebration continues.
