Work Experience
Native Chartered Architects
July 2015 - Jan 2016
Part 1 Architectural Assistant
Native introduced me to natural building through
their designs for both straw and hemp buildings and
desires to specify natural materials wherever
possible. During my time at Native I had the
opportunity to work on a number of residential
projects from concept stage through to planning
submission and enjoyed discussing my designs with
enthusiastic clients. With guidance, I also worked on
building regulations drawings for larger projects.

personal develop ment
I think it is important for Architects to have an in-depth
understanding of how buildings are constructed. After spending
the first six months of my year out working in a practice I decided
to take control of my development and find some practical
experience in natural building to help expand my knowledge and
understanding - I hope that this experience can be applied to my
future design work with confidence and skill.
Software
Whilst studying at univeristy I taught myself
AutoCAD, Photoshop and InDesign as well
as a basic level of SketchUp. I have also
had basic training in the use of Revit and
am a confident user of Vectorworks.

As part of the School of Natural
Building in association with
Strawworks I have been able to
convert theoretical knowledge of
straw bale building into practical
experience.
Volunteering on a range of eco-
build projects has given me
confidence in my abilities as a
designer and craftswoman whilst
helping me realise the accessibility
of natural building to all.
