My Life of the D-List, Fat Actress, and The Comeback are all reality-based situation comedies about females who have foregrounded their perceived shortcomings for audiences' pleasure. The comedy in each stems from the stars' failures. They remove the fictional frame between actors and audiences that more traditional genres hold in place and echo earlier attempts to use comedy as a space for women to perform struggles for visibility.
