Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

Well the weather held and
our first ever hosting of the
Vintage Garden Tractor Club
of America Canadian Re-
gional Show went off without
a hitch. Although we were a
bit nervous about how things
would turn out we couldn't
have been happier with the
results. Not only did the par-
ticipants have a great time
so did the residents of our
community. It isn't every day
that residents get to see a
parade of tractors head
down our roads to have a
coffee at the local Tim Hor-
ton’s. For our American
Friends "Tim’s" is an institu-
tion across Canada, almost
every town from coast to
coast has a Tim’s coffee
shop. We certainly turned a
few heads on our daily trek!!!
Over the weekend, a total of
24 members of the Club
were present; coming from
places like St. Mary’s, Fer-
gus, Shedden, Sarnia,
Ohsweken, Markham, Kirk-
ton, Thamesford, Midland,
Callander, Port Huron, Michi-
gan, Minesing, Ridgetown,
Atwood, Blenheim, Prince-
ton, Kent Bridge, Haley Sta-
tion to attend the show. A
few arriving days before it
even began. We even signed
up 1 new member to the club
at this event.
During the three day event
over 160 people attended the
show not only local town peo-
ple, but people from Elliott
Lake, Bancroft, Windsor, Kirk-
ton, Newbury, Ballymote, Ail-
sa Craig, and as far away as
Iowa City, Iowa (a former resi-
dent of town), New Phila,
Ohio and Houston, Ohio and
even someone from Germany
who was visiting friends
here!!!
About a dozen of the exhibi-
tors set up their campers at
the local fairgrounds located
just across the road from our
house.

3. Epilepsy Fundraising BBQ
We were also pleased to
have let The Ward family
(a local Forest family) put
on a fundraiser BBQ for
Epilepsy. With the help of
the donated BBQ from a
local business
(Woodward’s), they were
thrilled that the event
made over $700.00 for a
very worthy cause.

Gord & Marion Shewfelt
played a song called the
“Wilno Chicken Song“ and
presented Bob Howey with a
copy on CD that he listened to
all the way home.
Our daughter Karen even got
involved and presented a spe-
cial award to Bob Howey (the
oldest and biggest practical joker) – the
medical assist cane!!!! If
the self-check medical
list doesn’t help and the
pills aren’t quite enough
try the attached IV and if
you need further atten-
tion stomp the cane and/
or blow the whistle for
attention!!!!! Maybe, just
maybe, some of the oth-
ers will come to
your rescue!!!
The show extended to an Antique Car Club from
London stopping by on their cruise on Saturday
that included 7 antique cars and trucks.
The group presented Betty
and me with a gift for host-
ing the show – a tractor seat
with our names and 2013 on
it and a handmade wooden
cane and cutting boards
made by one of the mem-
bers, Charlie Young.

Our event also got a little “unsolicited” news coverage from an old friend who pretended he was covering the
event for the local media. Although the coverage was entirely made up, it did provide us with a few laughs….
Tractor Show to Hit Town
Residents of Forest take cover, no it's
not the Hells Angels or Satan’s Choice
coming to town, it's "The Hoard!!!” a
bunch of out of control near and
above Senior Citizens about to hit
town with their little classic lawn trac-
tors. And when we say out of control
we mean it! After years of aging and
abuse, their bladders can barely han-
dle a cup of coffee let alone all the
booze these folks can put back on a
hot sunny summers day.
Don't worry you will know when they
arrive; the roar of their little putt putt
mini tractors will reverberate
throughout the town, as they race up
and down our streets terrorizing
young and old alike as they travel to
and from Tim Horton’s for refills.
Who’s the leader of the pack? Or
should I say leaders? The innocent
looking Roy and Betty (also known as
B-bop) Stewardson. They have orga-
nized the get together as a means of
showing off their own collection of
crappy little tractors and scouting out
possible acquisitions of others.
"Will there be drugs?" Citizens ask.
"You bet there will!" commented an
observer of previous get togethers.
"There will be drugs alright, all sorts
of stuff: arthritis, laxatives, Imodium,
Pepto-Bismol, to say nothing of tons
of Depends", "When these folks party
almost anything goes: backs, knees,
bowels, dentures, hearing aids!!!",
"It's a real sight to see".
"The only reprieve will be around mid
afternoon when they a start to get
Filling in for Byrne as entertainment,
will be Johnny Hopper who will
amuse visitors with his stories about
his home town. A small piece of ad-
vice if Johnny nods off for a nap,
leave him be and count your bless-
ings that he is sleeping rather than
talking. Roy’s brother, Alvin, is also
rumoured to be entertaining visitors
as well, providing witty comments
about the visitors and perhaps play-
ing a few tunes on his oxygen line -
he turns up the pressure on the oxy-
gen and then pinches the tube to
make high pitched tones which he
can play familiar tunes like "I'm a
Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "the Wil-
liam Tell Overture". Be careful
though, he has been known to put
his oxygen bottle pump on reverse
and can suck the beer right out of
your glass if you aren't watching!!!
Everyone have fun and please be-
have your selves!!!
sleepy and require naps. You can hear
the snoring for blocks!!” The evening
could be rough as well, as their hear-
ing is starting to go, so don't worry,
they aren't fighting, they sometimes
have to shout to be heard. God forbid
there's a campfire and this gang start
singing some of those lame songs
from their youth.
Mayor Weber advised residents to
stay calm, some of these people can
be easily disoriented due to failing
eyesight, oncoming senility, booze
and drugs etc. so if one of these
clowns pulls into your driveway with
their tractor, just stay calm and point
them in the right direction (please
refrain from using your middle finger
to point!!) They may also become a
bit desperate if they have to go to the
bathroom and can't make it to Tim's
or the Stewardson compound. So if
you see them running on the spot,
holding their bums with a desperate
look on their faces please let them
use your facilities and the Steward-
son’s promise to reimburse residents
for any damage to their homes.
The OPP are a bit concerned that the
parking lot at Tim's could become like
the Bumper Car ride at the Toronto
Exhibition!!! So steer clear of that
area.
The one disappointment for the event
is the absence of newly hired Elvis
Mechanic and Guide, John Byrne, who
apparently moved out of the County
to avoid being here when the event
takes place.
5. toms officials think they are trying to import

when they take off their winter clothes all they
are left with is their shorts, speedos, and
sleeveless t-shirts!! Let's just say it’s not a
pretty sight. "
"I'm really worried about those folks from
Ohio & Michigan; they take their football rival-
ry seriously and invariably challenge each
other to a pick-up game of football". "You've
never heard such moaning and gleaning in
your life and that's just them putting their
running shoes on!!!”

Queen St. West in the quaint little town of For-

The sinister invasion began Monday with the
arrival of some folks from Ohio and has been
increasing every day since then. "It's not by
accident either", commented Betty "B-bop"
Stewardson, hostess extraordinaire of the
event, "we knew this would happen, these folks
have no sense of direction whatsoever!!",
“Some of these folks just drive round and round
till they bump into the town they are headed to
(maybe that's where the term "country bump-
kin" comes from!!!)”, "We are particularly inter-
ested in what happens with our American
friends" noted Stewardson, "those who are
allowed into the country (most are sent back
because their tractors are so crappy the cus-
them, their hometowns held big send-off cere-
monies when they learned they would be
headed to Forest. I think it was in hope that
they would be too embarrassed to come back –
at least they are hoping they don't come back."
"Where the heck is "Hailey Station" anyway? I
suppose that isn't as bad as some of those
other hick towns like Fergus and Blenheim,
those folks have never seen a metropolis like
Forest with its two and three story buildings!"
"When Roy told me all these folks were com-
ing, I had to prepare and make sure we could
accommodate them so I stocked up on lots of

"I find it comforting to know that this is what
happens to all those Hells Angels that terror-
ized everyone in their youth. They've really
slowed up, the most damage they could do to
you know is maybe drool on you or gum ya to
death!!!”
Mrs. Bernice Fussenphart
"I'm kinda disappointed really. I was hoping a
good ole hockey type fight might break out
between the Americans and Canadians, after
all isn't it the 200th anniversary of the War of
1812?"
Billy Bentley
"One of the Tractor drivers was almost fined
for speeding but when he explained that he
had had too many prunes for breakfast the
cops gave him a police escort to the washrooms
at Tim's. That would have left quite a trail on
our local roads!!!"
Mr. Fred Farkle

Thankfully the end is in sight for the tractor
show taking place at the Queen St, residence of
Roy & Betty Stewardson but as the old saying
goes, "it ain't over till it’s over".
The Show has had quite an effect on the small
community. Our reporter asked some of the
locals for their thoughts.
"We'll, what can I say really, they aren't doing
anyone any harm and it keeps these people out
of other kinds of mischief I suppose. Would it
kill them to mow a few lawns while they are in
town?”
Mr. Farley Finkle
"It's amazing to me that these people can drive
as well as they are given the amount of booze
they pound back each day! Some of them had a
hard time keeping their rigs on the road on
their way to Tim's!"
Ms. Doris Hickenbottom
"I find it very interesting to see that these peo-
ple have put so much effort into these little
tractors. You have to admit at least it keeps a
lot of crap out of our landfill sites."

ed tours would have been interesting. Perhaps
Karen will share some of the ideas Mr. Byrne
had for Theme Shows? I think Mr. Stewardson
should agree to Mr. Byrne's very reasonable
demands.”
Betty Stewardson
"Hey and what about these folks from "New
Phila" sounds like a bunch of trouble makers
don't they? What's wrong with old Phila? If
you couldn't come up with your own name for
your town, don't steal one from somebody
else!!!!
Roy Stewardson
“Well the turnip truck has finally arrived in
Forest, a bunch of rubes from Callandar and
Minesing just pulled in. Apparently they left
Monday morning and just got here!!!! Good
thing those folks from Gobles got here, they
will be able to set them straight. There's no
hope for those two from Midland they are
likely to get lost before the weekends over. I
heard the people from Atwood made it, mira-
cles will never cease.”

6. Betty & I, on be-
half of R & B
Wheel Horse
Stables and our
family, would
like to thank
everyone for
making our experience of holding the VGT-
COA Canadian Regional Show a great one.
Special thanks to all the members that
attended and brought tractors to display
and helped with the show and with the
games etc. Our gratitude also goes out to
the Ward family for putting on a great fund-
raiser BBQ for Epilepsy over the whole
weekend. We would especially like to
thank all those that stopped by to see the
displays and was more than proud to finally
show off our complete collection.
Thanks,
Roy Stewardson
