Fourteen million dollars worth of recreational marijuana was sold in Colorado in January, however marijuana businesses face obstacles due to federal prohibition preventing banks from working with them. This forces the businesses to operate entirely in cash, which a senator says makes them a target for crime. The director of a marijuana industry group agrees, saying deposit limits force banks to report suspicious activity. A sheriff believes federal support is needed for banking cooperation to make the industry safe, otherwise it will be back to operating only with cash.
