What?
12 students were selected out of 75 to play the prisoners and live in a
mock prison in the basement of a building. Another 12 were to play the
Guards. Roles were assigned randomly.

The officers displayed authoritarian measures and subjected some of the
prisoners to torture. In turn, the prisoners accepted physical abuse and
readily inflicted punishment on other prisoners who attempted to stop
it.

Five of the prisoners were upset enough by the process to quit the
experiment early, and the entire experiment was abruptly stopped after
only six days. The experimental process and the results remain
controversial. The entire experiment was filmed, with excerpts made
publicly available.

In the 1800s, in English-speaking schools
when reciting the alphabet, any letter that
could also be used as a word in itself (‘A’, ‘I’,
and, at one point, ‘O’) was preceded by the
Latin expression ‘per se’ (Latin for ‘by itself’).
Also, it was common practice to add at the
end of the alphabet this particular sign .

Thus, the recitation of the alphabet would end
in: ‘X, Y, Z and per se and.’ What sign?

On his final journey from England in 1610, he
headed northwest towards Canada on the ship
Discovery. He found a body of water which at first
he thought was the Pacific Ocean. It was a large
bay, which eventually was given his name.

In November, the Discovery became locked in ice.
The crew wanted to get back to England, but he
would not let them leave. It was a very cold
winter and the crew suffered greatly.

Eventually, the captain, his son and seven others
were set adrift in a small boat. No food or water
was provided and they were never seen again.

Name the captain.
