The Algiers Regional Library is exhibiting quilts by award-winning quilter Cecelia "Cely" Tapplette-Pedescleaux from November 7 to December 7. Ms. Tapplette-Pedescleaux will give a quilting presentation on November 11 from 5-6pm where refreshments will be served. Cely teaches quilting and the history of African American quilting and has had her quilts exhibited in many galleries, universities, and shows. She has received several honors for her work including the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Artie Award for Visual Arts in 2001.

The 3-day eTailing India Expo in Mumbai focused on panels and workshops about the changing retail landscape in India and opportunities in eCommerce. Over 1750 unique visitors attended, including 100 international and domestic speakers and 50 exhibitors. Topics at workshops included starting an online business and growing a brand in the digital economy. Keynote speeches addressed eCommerce growth drivers, challenges for world-class retailers, and connecting with digital customers. The expo was a success in bringing together over 700 companies and 350 CEOs and CXOs to discuss opportunities in the Indian eCommerce sector.

CECILIA TAPPLETTE- PEDESCLEAUX QUILT EXHIBIT AND PRESENTATION Cecelia “Cely” Tapplette-Pedescleaux, a self-taught quilter born in the 7th Ward of New Orleans, grew up surrounded with women seamstresses. Cely teaches quilting and the history of African American quilting to the public through Beecher Memorial United Church of Christ Quilt Guild, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, and the New Orleans and Jefferson School Districts, among others. Her quilts have been on exhibit in many galleries, colleges, universities, festivals and quilts shows. In 2001, Cely received the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Artie Award for Visual Arts, an honorable merit award in the Satchmo Art Show, and the National Conference of Artist Outstanding Artist Award in 2003. The U.S. Ambassador to Paris, France and the French Patchwork Association sponsored nine of her quilts in a French exhibit, “A Patchwork of Cultures: Traveling Exhibit From Louisiana to France” (2008-2009). These nine quilts were also included in an exhibit at the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Museum in Washington D.C. (August, 2010).
