Mera Qafila, literally translates into
My Caravan. That’s what this is!
My little book of adventures.
‘Everyone has the same eyes, but no
one has the same view’, they say.
When I walk around cities, I stop
and take pictures of everything that
amuses me. I like to capture moments
in their essence. Therefore, I decided
to compile my favourite moments and
take you aboard my caravan.
I hope you smile by the time you
reach the last page of this book.

3. Noir
Capturing moments in black
and white helps me see things
in their purest essence, and
that’s what I love about it; noir
enables me to visualize the
source of light. Noir helps me
see the subject clearly, and
gauge on what is visible to the
naked eye.
I think of it in a deeper and
spiritual sense.
Noir resonates with calmness.
It gives me clarity to identify
tones of the picture.

5. NazarI see art in people seeing art.
The way they observe and the
way their body reacts to artwork
intrigues me. Even in the most
unlikely of places, I try and find
aesthetic.

Sometimes, we tend to ignore
the simplicities of life in the rush
of this complex lifestyles . I like
to leave fifteen minutes early for
my journeys and stop.
Stop to see what’s being unseen.
Stop the capture the moment.
Hi, I’m Rutvi. I have divided
this book into two halves. One
half shows noir as a running
theme and the other half shows
surrealism through vivid colours.
Kind-of like my personality. I am
tough to be with. Sometimes I am
introspective, sometimes I am
stupid, sometimes I am sociable,
sometimes I am reserved, and
sometimes I am out-going.
It’s tough to understand me.
Maybe these pictures are art.
Maybe Qafila is art.
Maybe I am art. Who can decide
boundaries of art anyway?

8. PatangIf you ever come to my hometown, Ahmedabad, January
14 should fall in your itinerary. My love for festivals soars
as high as kites. When I clicked these pictures, I had a
strange affection towards these kites.
I think kites are similes for children. People often hold
them above everyone’s head to protect them and let them
lose on the very next day.

or where I live, my heart will
always reside in the Himalayas.
The mountains, no matter how
caged by tumult and politics,
will always be a place where I
can be free.

Rutvi Sheth considers herself free, not an artist. She
considers herself liberated, unbound from cultures
and societies, as although both of these helped make
her, she believes art is discovered in a place free
from wrongdoings and rightdoings.
One can often find her posing in uncomfortable
angles trying to find the perfect shot. This is her first
photobook.
