19. Room Territorial Interpretation
A Territorial Interpretation cafe, opened in 2009, is a reference to the level of the
cultural heritage of Póvoa de Lanhoso, while valuable tool put to work in tourism and
the various school communities.
One of the primary goals is awareness of the importance of our common heritage as
well that can represent the identity of a region and externalize the value of a culture,

23. Municipal Holiday - Feast of St. Joseph
The animation is a culture of ever-increasing roles played by local authorities.
Surpassed the urgency of basic infrastructure, welfare, leisure and cultural enjoyment
is a desideratum of our growing responsibilities.
Póvoa de Lanhoso, while county located in the heart of Minho, has disseminated a
little for all communities, an important and significant set of Festivals, Fairs and
Pilgrimages to complement the available supply by the municipality.
The dynamics of municipal cultural entertainment in addition to regular dynamics
ensured by various municipal areas, is particularly at the level of expression outside
the Annual Festival, Fair of S. Joseph, March 19, days Holiday Hall in the summer
period and evoking other commemorative days and events.
24. The festivities of the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso, fair and frank, S. Joseph, are
the first of the great pilgrimages of Minho. With a longstanding tradition, the first fair
was established in 1895, some of the main references of this tradition and still
maintain that spirit.
With a fundamentally dynamic economy, which remained the main engine propellant
booster and for decades, where traders took their vital share of responsibility in the
organization and promotion of individual initiatives, as part of these festivities, in
which key moments were, of course In addition to the contest and livestock fair, frank,
horse racing.
25. History of Open Fair and the Feast of St.
Joseph
The history of fairs in Póvoa de Lanhoso find references and prior to the fair of S.
Joseph First Letter of the Provincial D. Dinis (1292, September 25), or the first
reference to a Market Charter dates from the fifteenth century. The first fairs in
existing Póvoa de Lanhoso, thanks to its rural character, chose a way nearly
indistinguishable from the period of seasonal harvests of late summer (the "San Miguel
September), there are several references to fairs to weekly or monthly Throughout the
nineteenth century.
The most significant bibliographic reference for monitoring the history of the Feasts of
St. Joseph is the study of Dr. José Bento da Silva, "Open Fair and Feast of S. Joseph,
"published in 2003. There we can provide with documents, among other facts,
institutionalized by the city of Póvoa de Lanhoso, Feira de S. Joseph, in March 1895,
mindful of the feel and pulse of the community.
Today is killing private moments of tradition, that the livestock competition is exactly
one of the references of the day March 19 in Póvoa de Lanhoso. In 1887 premiums
totaled 50,000 for the kings' oxen and horses, "split between the best team of oxen,
""better seal bulls","best horse"and" best horse. " Today's awards, although not very big
but you are outnumbered.
26. The first party until today there are traditions that still remain. In addition to the fair
and contests, music (brass bands) are still present. In 1897 he was the "band music
Povoense" to brighten up the party. Today is the Musical Band of the Volunteer
Firemen of Povoa de Lanhoso and Banda Musical Calvos.
In 1898, another important attraction of the festivals were the horse races on the road
to Guimarães, "there remain horse races (gallop) on lands annexed to the EN 310
which connects to Guimarães.
If the fireworks, fireworks still stands in the tradition, while "rose to the large amount
of air rockets, " the sessions of fireworks, fireworks now "garden" is one of the
important moments of the festivities, with their audience, connoisseurs and simple but
numerous admirers. Many are also lovers of folklore Minho, which meets in the
Festival of Festivals S. José with the participation of folk groups of the Council 7.
27. Tradition and religiosity
From what is expressed, the Feasts of St. Jose's very popular tradition that, on the
other hand give it a strong sect, which was even the subject of downsizing, or at least
strong awareness in order to dignify this particular moment is the procession.
Despite the religious component to support an aspect of commercial and festive
celebrations, because only after the creation of the parish of Nossa Senhora do Amparo
(in 1925) the sect of the parties started to follow the strong economic component. In
fact, from 1928 is that the High Mass is held regularly, with the procession still takes
place later, with regularity from the 60s (sporadically in 1935, 1949 and 1950).
The municipal character of the festivities is assumed in several directions, and is now
participating in a majestic procession of its exponents. The institution of the day March
19 as a day of Municipal holiday brings you, of course, a more significant local
dimension, is the involvement of institutions, or popular participation and
membership. At March 19 are also associated with some of the best moments in recent
history of Póvoa de Lanhoso (opening of City Hall, Court and particularly with the
imposition of municipal honors).
28. Because of the Pilgrimage of S. Joseph is the first one of our great pilgrimages in the
Minho, the subject of much popular participation, in a mixture of faith and profane, the
Program seeks to achieve other objectives, including promotion, by patenting the
strands sites, establishing itself as a showcase of work and activities of people from the
Lands Lanhoso.
The local cuisine is one of the references, in addition to all the signature dishes of the
region, highlight the concrete to the "Kid to S. Joseph "that almost all the restaurants
put on the menu during this period.
29. Cultural Entertainment - Theatre
Theatre is another strong focus of the animation summer, creating a distinctive
cultural poster, and even preferred alternative, with the holding of shows Lanhoso
Castle (and other space assets) on the nights of Friday and Saturday of July and
August.
More information www.theatroclub.com.
30. Summer ConVida
The Municipality of Povoa de Lanhoso tested and said a new formula for the
development of animation summer, based on elementary assumptions as to create an
attractive and pleasant space for vacationers, residents and tourists, it was proposed
that a daily entertaiment extends over almost two months.
With a multifaceted program characteristics was found that this animation was able,
by its diversity and heterogeneity, boosting the development of habits sustained by
cultural programming directed to different target audiences, meeting the individual
sensitivities and preferences oflarger number of people.
To this end, we opted to choose the most central area of the town of Povoa de Lanhoso,
which simultaneously meeting the conditions necessary to conform to the new
philosophy, conditioning of traffic and pedestrian movement calling for, helped change
the Square Eng Armando Rodriguez in a reference during the summer.
During summer, the image of "going to the Plaza de gained new common
denominators: welfare, leisure, entertainment, music, fun ... and is now synonymous
with a simple" go to the Square. "
Starting from the central square of Eng Armando Rodriguez have been further tested
various formulas, will occupy public spaces, where the activities are distributed in
continuity, daily in July and August.
31. With an intense program based mainly on small animations ranging from Street
Entertainment, Theatre, Music, Cinema, the Kids Fun ... among other activities, they
show themselves capable of a dialectic able to sustain an increased pace and surging
demand for space created.
The success of the initiative called "The summer turns ... in the Square! "is measured
through nuances as the regularity, the flow and the infectious spirit that could
promote.
The Square has become a new social space as long not seen happen in Póvoa de
Lanhoso, gaining a momentum and life of its own identifiable only in localities where
tourism transforms seasonally.
This programming philosophy has revealed that the Póvoa de Lanhoso, as elsewhere,
has a potential that can transform the findings when appropriate formats and capable.
The initiative "The summer turns ... in the Square! "is definitely an appropriate
formula to the desired transfiguration of Povoa de Lanhoso during the summer, so it
will be repeated in identical molds in the year 2006
Benefiting from the experience, the Hall of Póvoa de Lanhoso preparing to transform
the Square Eng Armando Rodriguez in a social and cultural center of the most
successful yet.
32. Festivals, Fairs and Pilgrimages
