Things that keep me afloat rather than treading water.

In today’s business environment we often
find it hard to motivate and inspire ourselves,
let alone those around us. This brief
commentary is designed to share with you
the thoughts that continue to drive and
motivate me. If it makes YOU feel better too,
then sharing them was well worth the effort.

2. Simplicity …….
Simplicity is the key to seamless
execution. We often overlook the best
answers because they seem too easy.
Maybe it’s time to step back a bit and
look for the uncomplicated solutions.

3. Opportunities …….
Opportunities are all around
us. Being observant and a
student of the business
opens the door to the many
productivity improvements
and cost savings that can be
had if we only take the time
to see them.

4. Learning …….
While education has a clearly
defined beginning and end,
true learning is a continuous
process that allows us to grow
and move forward on our path
to reaching our full potential.
Consider every interaction
throughout the day a learning
opportunity and be surprised
at how energized you will feel
at the end of it – each and
every day.

5. Value Added …….
Success is the result of feeling that you have contributed fully and to the
best of your ability – that you have added value to the world around you
even if that world is just a cubicle. I’ve found four elements that work for me
which have contributed greatly to my ability to add value throughout my
career:
Self:
Identify your personal weaknesses and work to overcome them while
leveraging your natural strengths.
Others:
Be a student of the business, observant of what’s going on around you and
within other areas of the organization as there are opportunities to reduce
costs and improve productivity all around you.
Action:
Learn to be fearless, presenting solutions – not just problems, and creative
alternatives – not just band aids.
Relationships:
Consider every interaction you have as a learning opportunity and a chance
to establish long term lines of solid communication.
