One convention it goes against is representing the female character Jane Tenison as powerful and equal to male characters, despite being a woman in charge. Sound is used to create atmosphere, like keys walking down a prison corridor or a violin during a tense interrogation. Shots like a close-up of a prisoner reading or an over-the-shoulder interview with parents establish settings, characters' emotions, and build suspense for the audience.

Paragraph 1- genre= Crime drama because of the setting and costume use of mise on

Ambient sound of the keys when man is walking down prison with his keys causing
atmosphere for the watching audience.
Non diegetic sound when the police officer visits the prisoner there is a high pitched
sound used with things such as violins to add suspense and tension.
Followed by
diegetic sound with the jail door when shutting, made slightly louder to show he’s in a cell
and cannot get out,
Close up- when reading a book showing his expression towards it and the situation
happening around him.
Dialogue-Jane tenison ‘I do have a name you know’ – representing her role as superior.
Also as equal as other men workers compassionate to her work.
Jail doors- ambient sound when train goes past, exaggerating the scene where they are.
Over the shoulder shot of the police woman interviewing the parents questioning about
where there daughter could be, shows there emotions to what is been said setting the
atmosphere for the audience.

Prime suspect's genre is a crime drama, this is because of the setting situated in the drama
and use of mise on scene shows the costume to be in police clothes. Prime suspect use’s
multiple conventions to get across the role of a particular character although, in one case the
go against it. This is with the character Jane Tenison she is represented as a powerful woman
in comparison to other male dominate characters. The Dialogue she uses suggests her as a
superior role. For example she says ‘ I do have a name’ meaning she is as equal to the other
male workers and is compassionate about her work and wants to be in control you can also
tell by her tone of voice what her expression is towards the matter of the scene. For example
she says it in a deep voice with sighs during them she shown to be angry and fed up.

lively hood in prison and you cannot enjoy your freedom. There is then an over the shoulder

exaggerating the dramatic scene and gives a over all atmosphere on the audience's views.
