Facebook redesigned their News Feed for iOS users using functional programming to improve reliability and make debugging easier. Functional programming allowed Adam Ernst and his team to more easily track how state moved through the code and replicate issues. It also helped eliminate race conditions that were difficult to detect with their previous Model-View-Controller approach. While functional programming has traditionally not seen much industry use, Facebook found it helped them optimize the News Feed to perform fast enough for their billions of users.
The document discusses redesigning the digital space of an English department's website using a user-centered design approach. It describes conducting stakeholder interviews, analyzing competitor websites, inventorying existing content, card sorting exercises to define site sections, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing an interactive mockup. The results of this process included reorganizing content into more logical sections, addressing usability issues, and developing standardized templates for different page types to create a more effective online experience for users.
This proposal aims to examine sex-related alcohol expectancies as moderators of the relationship between alcohol use and risky sexual behavior. The study will use a longitudinal design to assess how expectancies and behaviors change over time in college students. Participants will complete online questionnaires at baseline and weekly follow-ups measuring alcohol use, sexual activity, risk behaviors, and expectancies regarding alcohol's effects on sex. The hypotheses are that expectancies will remain stable, and that higher disinhibition and sex-risk expectancies will strengthen the link between drinking and risky sex when assessed through aggregation of data across timepoints. Hierarchical regression will be used to test for moderation effects.
