Prevention is better than cure. People in India, even the educated ones are unaware about cancer. Frequent screening tests can detect cancer at an earlier stage. Consequently, early detection of cancer can decrease the treatment cost and increase the success rate.

● A mammogram is the best way to find breast
cancer early on
● It can often show breast lumps before they

● Women over the age of 40 should have
mammograms every 1 or 2 years
● Women under the age of 40 who have a risk

● PAP test can find abnormal cells which can turn into cancer
● HPV test can be done to check for HPV virus which can cause

● Girls and women aged 11-26 years should be vaccinated for
HPV
● Women who are 21-65 should get PAP test done
● Women over the age of 30 should have test for HPV done along
with PAP

● PAP test every 3 years is sufficient if test results are normal

● This type of cancer usually develops from
precancerous polyps (abnormal growths) in
the colon or rectum
● Screening tests at regular intervals can find
precancerous polyps, which can be removed
before it turns cancerous
● One should begin screening test as soon as
they turn 50
● However, people below that age should also
get tests done as per their healthcare
professional’s advice or if they have certain
conditions
