Over 1,000 people have signed a petition by MEP Mary Honeyball against a proposal by the Met Police to close its dedicated human trafficking unit. The petition has support from charities, politicians, and unions who believe the specialized unit is needed to help victims and prosecute perpetrators. Honeyball will present the petition to the Met Police Commissioner and Mayor on November 13th in an effort to convince them to keep the unit open, as it was given a reprieve last year due to similar pressure. A decision on the unit's closure is expected on November 16th.
