Lamar University Hosts 2016 Spring Commencement
(March 3, 2016; Beaumont, TX ) Lamar University will showcase their latest graduates at the
annual Spring Commencement, which will be divided by college into 5 ceremonies that will be
held on Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21.
“Graduation is always the most anticipated event for graduates and their families,”
says Jocelyn Causer, a graduating nursing major. “But I also believe it should be the most
anticipated event for prospective employers and the SouthEast Texas community.”
Separate Commencements will be held by each of Lamar’s 5 colleges, beginning with
the College of the Arts on Friday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. Ceremonies will continue Saturday, May
21, with the College of Engineering at 8:30 a.m., the College of Business at 11:00 a.m., the
College of Fine Arts & Communication at 1:00 p.m., and end with the College of Education &
Human Development at 5:00 p.m.
All ceremonies are free, open to the public, and will be held in the Montagne Center on
the main campus located at 4410 South Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in Beaumont, TX 77705.
Each college will announce their recipient of the Plummer Award, recognize their honors
students, and those who have graduated with distinction. Each ceremony will be followed
by a free reception with refreshments; keynote speakers for each ceremony will be announced.

Seating begins an hour prior to each ceremony. Free parking is available in the
Montagne parking lots A2 and A5. Handicapped parking and a wheelchair-accessible elevator
are available on the Montagne Center’s North Side.
Sign-language interpreters will be present during each ceremony at the front of the
stage and hearing impaired guests are encouraged to arrive early to locate appropriate seating.
Balloons, air-horns, confetti, noisemakers, fireworks, alcohol, selfie-sticks, and illegal
substances are prohibited during the ceremonies.
