Famous Filipinos
in the field of Science
RAMON CABANOS BARBA
(AUGUST 31,1939 - OCTOBER 10, 2021) was a Filipino Inventor and
horticulturist, best known for inventing a way to induce more
flowers in mango trees using ethrel and potassium nitrate. Barba
was proclaimed a National Scientist of the Philippines in June
2014.
JOSEFINO CACAS COMISO
”Joey” is a Filipino who contributed to the creation of an atlas of
sea ice cover. He has written more than 70 studies in Earth
Related Sciences, including studies on polynyas, an area where ice
is note covered and the water of the Southern Ocean (the sea
around Antartica) is directly exposed to the atmosphere.
JOSE BEJAR CRUZ JR.
(Born September 17, 1932) has compiled an enviable record of
accomplishments in engineering research and education. In
research, he has made major contributions to the theory and
practice of automatic control. His work in the 1970s and 1980s on
the control of leader-follower systems is still considered one of
the major contributions of the half-century in the theory of
hierarchical control systems.
LOURDES JANSUY CRUZ
(born May 19, 1942) is aFilipinobiochemist whose research has
contributed to the understanding of the biochemistry of toxic
peptides from the venom of fish-huntingConusmarine snails.
DR. FABIAN MILLAR DAYRIT
(Born DECEMBER 4, 1953). “Toby” is recognized for his significant
achievements in the field of chemistry, spectroscopy and
environmental science which have contributed to the growth of
science and science education in the country. His researches
established standards for essential composition and quality
factors of commercial virgin coconut oil and how VCO can be
differentiated from refined coconut and copra oil.
RAFAEL DINEROS GUERRERO III
is aFilipinoinventor of vermicomposting and vermimeal. He is also
known as atilapiaexpert who pioneered the innovationSRT-
