Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi is an Indian architect born in 1927 in Pune. He studied at J.J. School of Art in Bombay and worked with Le Corbusier in Paris from 1951-1954. In 1956, he established his practice, Vastu-Shilpa, in Ahmedabad. Some of his notable projects include the Aranya Low-Cost Housing in Indore from 1983-1986, the Hussain Gufa museum in Ahmedabad built underground, and his Sangath Architect office in Ahmedabad from 1979-1981 which uses passive design and local materials. Doshi's work focuses on climatically responsive design, traditional Indian architectural principles, and community-oriented projects.
