K2 on the Pakistan/China border is the second highest peak at 28,251 feet (8611 meters) and is considered one of the most technically difficult mountains to climb due to its steep 45 degree plus ice slopes earning it the name "The Savage Mountain." It also has one of the highest death rates during descents of any mountain with around 23% of climbers who reach the top perishing on the way back down, highlighting the extremely challenging weather conditions on the peak.
