CIRCLE IN DAILY LIFE
WHAT IS A CIRCLE?
• A CIRCLE IS A CLOSED CURVE IN A PLANE.
A Circle can be drawn with the help of a
circular object.
For Eg. A circle drawn with the help of coin
Centre of a circle
• A circle is a closed curve consisting of all points in a
plane which are at the same distance from a fixed point
inside it.
•This fixed point inside a circle is
called Centre.
•A circle has one and only centre
Radius
• A line segment that joints
any point on the circle to
its centre its called a radius.
• Radius of a circle are equal
in length.
• Infinite number radius can
be drawn in a circle.
Diameter
• A line segment that joins any two
points on the circle and passes
through its centre is called a
diameter.
• Infinite number diameter can be
drawn in a circle.
• The Length of the diameter of the
circle is twice the length of its radius.
Chord
• A line segment that joins any two
points on a circle is called a chord.
• Diameter is also a chord of a circle.
• Diameter is the longest chord.
• Infinite number of chords can be
drawn in a circle.
ARC
• An arc is the distance between any two
points on the circumference of a circle.
Sector
• The plane surface that is enclosed
between two radii and the circular arc
of a circle is called a Sector.
SEGMENT
•Each part of a circle which is
divided by a chord is called a
segment.
•The part which has a smaller arc
is called as a minor segment.
•The part which has a larger arc
is called as a major segment.
