SPRINTS (TRACK EVENTS)
• Event 1- 60m: a championship event for indoor championships, normally dominated by the best
outdoor 100m runners
• Event 2- 100m: the shortest common outdoor running distance, the 100m dash is one of the most
popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics
• Event 3- 200m: a sprint running event that needs a combination of techniques to successfully run the
race, this enables athletes to stride forwards more powerfully when the race begins and start faster.
• Event 4- Hurdles: sport in athletics (track & field) in which a runner races over a series of obstacles
called hurdles, which are set a fixed distance apart
MIDDLE DISTANCE (TRACK EVENTS)
• Event 5- 400m: at exactly eight laps on a standard 400m track, this event is typically run only in
American high schools
• Event 6- 800m: is a common track running event and also the shortest commonly run middle-distance
running event
LONG DISTANCE (TRACK EVENTS)
• Event 7- 1500m: Also known as the metric mile, covering three and three- quarter laps around a
standard Olympic-sized track.
• Event 8- 3k: where 7.5 laps are completed around an outdoor 400m track or 15 laps around a 200m
indoor track
• Event 9- 5k: a road running competition over a distance of 5 kilometres, it is also the shortest of the
most common road running distances
• Event 10- 10k- a road running competition over a distance of 10 kilometres, it is also one of the most
common type of road running event, alongside the shorter 5k and longer half marathon and marathon
RELAY RACES (FIELD EVENTS)
• Event 11- 4x100m: an athletics field event run in lanes over 1 lap of the track with four runners running
at a distance of 100 metres each
• Event 12- 4x200m: an athletics field event in which teams consists of four runners who each run 200
metres
• Event 13- 4x800m: an athletics field event in which teams consists of four runner each running at a
distance of 800 metres
JUMPS (FIELD EVENTS)
• Event 14- LONG JUMP: a field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt
to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point
• Event 15- TRIPLE JUMP: a field event in which competitors attempt to jump as far as possible by
performing a hop, a step and a jump from a running start. It is similar to the long jump.
• Event 16- HIGH JUMP: a field event in which competitors must jump over a horizontal bar placed at
measured heights without dislodging it
• Event 17- POLE VAULT: an athletic event in which competitors attempt to vault over a high bar with the
end of an extremely long, flexible pole held in the hands and used to give extra spring

THROWS ( FIELD EVENTS)
• Event 18- DISCUS: a field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disc, called a discus, in an attempt to
mark a farther distance than their competitors
• Event 19- JAVELIN: a field event sport of throwing a spear for distance
• Event 20- SHOT PUT: a field event involving “putting” (pushing rather than throwing) a heavy spherical
ball, the shot, as far as possible
