Daisy Bates was an American civil rights activist. She played a pivotal role in the desegregation of schools in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957. Bates worked closely with the Little Rock Nine, the group of African American students who helped integrate Central High School, facing down angry mobs and federal troops in the process.
