Antonio Ma. Meléndez was a Spanish painter and sculptor born in 1716 who is considered one of the greatest still life painters of the 18th century. He worked for King Charles III of Spain and created realistic paintings and sculptures of flowers, fruits, and kitchen utensils that were admired for their mastery of light, texture, and composition. Meléndez helped establish still life painting as a major genre of art.
