Dante Gabriel Rossetti was a 19th century English poet and painter who created several notable works inspired by literature and religion between 1849-1871. Some of his most famous works include illustrations for poems by Tennyson including "Mariana" and "The Lady of Shalott", as well as religious paintings depicting scenes from the Bible such as "The Annunciation" and "Proserpina". He also painted portraits of women from his life including his sister Christina Rossetti and his lover Jane Morris who served as models.
