Introduction
◦ The Internet of Things is a computing concept that
describes a future where everyday physical objects
will be connected to the Internet and be able to
identify themselves to other devices.
◦ The term is closely identified with RFID as the
method of communication, although it also may
include other sensor technologies, wireless
technologies or QR codes.
◦ Internet of Things describes a world where just
about anything can be connected and communicate
in an intelligent fashion. In other words, with the
Internet of Things, the physical world is becoming
one big information system.
Trends
 the Web Of Thing is an architecture for the application
layer of the Internet of Things looking at the convergence
of data from Information of Things devices into Web
applications to create innovative use-cases.
 Embedded intelligence presents a perspective of Internet of
Things, which can be more clearly defined as: leveraging
the capacity to collect and analyze the digital traces left by
people when interacting with widely deployed smart things
to discover the knowledge about human life, environment
interaction, as well as social inter connection and related
behaviors.
 list presented below, includes examples of IoT applications
in different domains, which is showing why the Internet of
Things is one of the strategic technology trends for the
next 5 years.
Trends
 Cities
 Smart Parking: Monitoring of parking spaces availability in
the city.
 Structural health: Monitoring of vibrations and material
conditions in buildings, bridges and historical monuments.
 Intelligent Transportation Systems: Smart Roads and
Intelligent Highways with warning messages and diversions
according to climate conditions and unexpected events like
accidents or traffic jams.
 Home Automation
 Remote Control Appliances: Switching on and off remotely
appliances to avoid accidents and save energy. Intrusion
Detection Systems: Detection of window and door openings
and violations to prevent intruders
 Environment
 Landslide and Avalanche Prevention: Monitoring of soil
moisture, vibrations and earth density to detect dangerous
patterns in land conditions.
 Earthquake Early Detection
 Industrial Control M2M Applications: Machine auto-
diagnosis and assets control.
Interest Areas
 My interest areas are Home Automation
 And Patients Surveillance
 For example:- Monitoring of conditions of patients inside
hospitals and in old people’s home like if I was given an
internship I would like to work on Lifewear (Mobilized
Lifestyle With Wearables) which is ITEA2
project that aims to extend the usage of electronic devices
and interfaces
, specifically targeting physiological monitoring of real-time
human
body parameters (breathing rate, body temperature, heart
rate) that can be
combined by environmental data (environmental
temperature) to obtain different
services. Stress is also put in HMI (Human-Machine
Interaction) and
HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) in order to further offer
profiling, privacy
Thank you
