 Task include 5. Promoting health and assisting in preventing ill health by

3. Registered Nurse ( Child and Family Health ) 
 Core Duties  Provides nursing care to children and their families emphasis 
on prevention, early detection, intervention in, physical, 
emotional and social problems affecting children and their 
families such as assistance with parent craft, immunisation 
and developmental milestones 
4. Registered Nurse ( Community Health ) 
 Core Duties  Provides nursing care, health counselling, screening and 
education to individuals, families and groups focus on 
patient independence and health promotion

5. Registered Nurse ( Critical Care ) 
 Core Duties 1. Provides nursing care to critically ill patients and patients 
following injury, surgery or during acute phase of diseases 
2. Integrating new technological equipment into care in 
settings such as high dependency units, intensive care units, 
emergency departments or retrieval services 
6. Registered Nurse ( Developmental Disability ) 
 Core Duties  Provides nursing care to people with intellectual and 
development disabilities in a range of health, welfare and 
community settings

 Core Duties 1. Provides nursing care to patients recovering from injury and

 Core Duties  Provides nursing care to patients with conditions, such as 
infections, metabolic disorders and degenerative conditions, 
which require medical intervention in a range of health, aged 
care and community settings

9. Registered Nurse ( Medical Practice ) 
 Core Duties 1. Provides clinical care to patients

10. Registered Nurse ( Mental Health ) 
 Core Duties  Provides nursing care to patients with mental health illness, 
disorder and dysfunction, and those experiencing emotional 
difficulties, distress and crisis in health, welfare and aged 
care facilities, correctional services and the community

2. Midwives’ Duties and Tasks 
 Core Duties  Provide care and advice to women during pregnancy

 Task include 1. Providing advice and support during pre-conception, 
intrapartum, antenatal and postnatal periods with women 
2. Providing care and management of pregnancy and birth 
3. Assessing progress and recognising warning signs of 
abnormal and potentially abnormal pregnancies if required 
4. Monitoring the condition of women and foetuses during 
pregnancy and throughout labour
Midwives’ Duties and Tasks 
 Task include 5. Conducting health education classes and seminars to 
promote the health of mothers and babies such as 
reproductive health, antenatal education, preparation for 
parenthood and breastfeeding 
6. Providing advice on nutrition, childcare and family 
planning
Midwives’ Indicative Skill Level 
 With a bachelor degree or higher qualification 
 Registration or licensing is required

to 4 years 
 Requirements 1. Candidate have been sponsored by an approved business 
2. And have the required skills to fill a position nominated by 
an approved business
Visas for Nurse and Midwife to work and/or to settle in Australia 
B. Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) 
 Features  This visa is for points-tested skilled workers who are 
nominated by a state or territory government agency 
 Allows Candidate to live and work in Australia as a 
Permanent Resident. 
 Requirements 1. Not yet turned 50 years of age and with competent English 
2. With occupation on relevant skilled occupation list 
3. Obtained a suitable skills assessment 
4. Achieved sufficient score in the points test 
5. Nominated by an Australian state 
6. Eligible to apply for this visa if invited
Visas for Nurse and Midwife to work and/or to settle in Australia 
C. Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) 
 Features  This visa is for points-tested skilled workers who are 
nominated by a state or territory government agency 
 Allows Candidate to live and work in Australia as a 
Permanent Resident. 
 Requirements 1. Not yet turned 50 years of age and with competent English 
2. With an occupation on relevant skilled occupation list
