In class we were set the task to create a school magazine as our
preliminary task. This is useful to us as we are able to learn from
our mistakes and get used to Photoshop.



From this we will be able to refine our skills, ensuring that we will
be able to create our music magazine efficiently.



For this task I intend to make a magazine for the schools sixth form
students.
The Masthead is in a bold
font and looks as if it was
written by hand y one of
the students. Therefore
making it seem a lot more
casual and will effectively
appeal to its target
audience.

The Strap line is in
a bold font and a
bright, white
colour. Thus
making it stand
out among the
rest of the text on
the magazine

This may be the main story. I
can tell this because it is the
biggest font on the page and is
also written in a different font to
the rest of the magazine. This
could have been done to
emphasise this story as
teenagers are known to go
through a lot of school-related
stress due to exams.

The Puff helps to sell a magazine by
further enticing their audience.
Obviously, a schools magazine is
targeted at teenagers between the
ages of 11-16. Around these ages
teens often experience insecurities
about what they eat and the way
they look (especially girls). So by
advertising a ‘healthy cooking
guide’ it will ensure that most of the
schools population will buy the
magazine.
Secondary stories
help to sell the
magazine. This is
done by appealing
to more audiences
by having a range of
articles that will
attract different
types of people.
AS Media Studies Preliminary Task – School Magazine Front Page Proposal Form
Target audience:

about your audience and how to appeal to them.

Target audience are sixth form students

Possible title ideas:
(masthead / title block)
What is your magazine going to be called?

’Former’s Forum’

What will be the focal point of your front page,
remember, your work “must include a photograph of a
student in a medium close-up”
Main cover line:
What will be the main story?

Promotions and awards.

Additional key images:
What other images will be on your front cover?
Remember, it is a school magazine.

Books, grade sheets, smiling teachers

Additional cover lines:
Other features, stories or selling points which will be
inside the magazine, these need to be audience
appropriate.

Good grades, Teacher praises, Promotions, awards.

Typography:
(style, size, colour of copy)
Think about the writing and the style of the writing on
your front page.

Follow colour scheme of our clothes of key image.
Could also use ‘house’ colours.
Corporate style writing/ writing that looks as If it has been written by a student.

Background colour/image:
What will be in the background, remember you don’t
want to take the focus away from the main image.

Bright sun/ cloudy ‘in playground’ day. (field, common room)

Technical considerations:
(equipment, setting, props, costume, lighting)
Be realistic and creative, think about what you have
access to and how you could use it.

Make-up.
School books.
School teachers.
I believe this would make a good key image as she is in centre frame. Also,
because she looks presentable as her hair is neat and her face clear. This gives
the idea that she is a good student, therefore a perfect picture for my school
magazine.
