This document discusses a surface design brief to create a collection of wallpapers inspired by a visit to Kilve and that could be sold at Liberty. It explores influences from William Morris, Orla Kiely, and Henri Matisse to develop pattern ideas. William Morris' nature-inspired designs linked well to the natural theme. Orla Kiely's simplified abstract shapes from nature provided a contrasting approach. Matisse's cut-outs with their simple repeated shapes on complimentary backgrounds also informed pattern ideas. Examples of initial patterns attempting to blend the photographer's Kilve images with styles from Orla Kiely are included, with one design noted as the strongest so far.
