This document provides an overview of a thesis that examines the relevance of food sovereignty for understanding challenges faced by indigenous peoples in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of Bangladesh. The thesis conducts a secondary analysis of how a food sovereignty framework can help bridge understanding between food security, indigenous movements, and restoring traditional food systems and knowledge in the region. It finds that a food sovereignty approach reframes indigenous rights as active citizenship, inseparably linking the right to food with rights to land and seeds. This perspective offers alternative ways of conceptualizing indigenous autonomy focused on control of the food system rather than state-centric definitions of autonomy.
