Futura is a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by German typographer Paul Renner in 1927. It was created as a contribution to the New Frankfurt project and is based on simple geometric shapes like circles in line with the Bauhaus design style of the time. The typeface was developed by the Bauer Type Foundry in competition with Ludwig & Mayer's Erbar typeface from 1926.
