Introduction:-
•The automotive industry is on the brink of a
revolution, and the plastics industry is poised to play a
major role.
•In the last 25 years, the integration of plastics has
been key to the automotive industry's ability to design
high-performance vehicles with improved safety
features and fuel economy.
Some Facts :-
Indian OEMs currently use about 155 pounds of plastic per car, and
that amount is expected to climb significantly, and possibly double, by
2016.
According to study, plastic content will rise from current levels to
240-300 pounds in the next five years. Volkswagen Group has already
achieved the 300-pound level in its car range.
China and the U.S. use 286 and 330 pounds of plastic per car,
respectively, which shows the huge opportunity in India for plastic
consumption in the rapidly growing automobile sector.
Why Plastics ?
DESIGN VISION
SAFETY VISION- The unique properties and design flexibility of plastics and plastic
composites can help improve safety features for both drivers and passengers.
GREEN VISION- . Based on a national laboratory study a ten percent reduction in
vehicle weight translates to a 5% increase in miles per gallon. At an annual build of 15
million passenger vehicles per year this equates to a sizable savings in gasoline and the
accompanying emissions.
Reducing pollution and saving fossil fuels
