BORGOGNO - BAROLO SINCE 1761
Borgogno is the name of the oldest wine producing
house in Piemonte and the world’s oldest Barolo wine
cellar, strictly connected to the history of this magic and
inimitable wine. It all began in 1761, when Bartolomeo
Borgogno established the cellar. In 1861, when the Unity
of Italy came about, the Barolo di Borgogno was the wine
chosen to accompany the celebration lunch of Italy’s
official unity. Today, the vinification process in the cellar
is still 100% traditional: this traditional wine-making
process allows Barolo Borgogno to have unique
structure and character, long ageing, preserving it
perfectly for many years.

FONTANAFREDDA ESTATE
In the Fontanafredda estate two separate entities
overlap: a small rural community set amidst the splendid
hills of the Langhe and the entrepreneurial activity of a
great winemaking estate, the wines of which grace
tables all over the world. Both are protagonists of
historical events between the 19th and 20th centuries.
Fontanafredda was established in 1878 in the vineyards
surrounding the village of Serralunga d’Alba as part of
the private estate of Vittorio Emanuele II, future king of
Italy. The estate includes the cellars, the village, the
Royal Villa and the Wood of Thought, where memories of
the first King of Italy and of “la Bella Rosina”, his
mistress, are still very much alive.

BAROLO AND THE KING OF WINES
Barolo is a small village located in the wine producing
region of Langhe and is the capital of the “King” of
wines. The village has medieval orgins and stands
among other magnificent villages including La Morra and
Serralunga d’Alba. Barolo is surrounded by hills with
splendid views over the areas where the grapes from
the “Nebbiolo” vines, used for producing Barolo wine,
are cultivated. The fascinating and imposing 10th
century Falletti Castle, now housing the innovative Wine
Museum, embodies and amplifies the heritage of this
village, a history of more than a thousand year filled with
culture and tradition.
