Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

2. pmk, 2009 PMK (projekti maastiskesä) on jo kolmatta vuotta aktiivisesti pyöräilyn ohessa toimivava liikunnallinen porukka. Tavoitteena on ollut luoda maksuton, kaikki osallistujat ikä, kunto ja kalusto tasavertaisesti huomioiva lenkkiporukka. Vuonna 2008 järjestettiin 80 yhteislenkkiä joissa oli keskimäärin 5,7 osallistujaa / kerta. Kaikkiaan liikuntasuorituksia saatiin aika kasa. Kolme talkoolaista Vimpelin kuuden tunnin ajon kokoisessa tapahtumassa on kovin vähän.
11. KEVÄT, AFRIKANTÄHTI urbanride 09@ OULUOulun paikalliset jermut järjestivät kevään kynnyksellä 4.4 Oulussa Afrikan-tähti teemalla urbaanit sohjoajot. Paikalle pömpsähti myös Kajaanista Mikko kaksikko. Loistavalla taktiikalla jättäen yksi ´varma´ hevosenkenkärasti käymättä palattiin illan hämärtyessä samaiselle rastille maalipaikan tiedon toivossa. Mukavan päivän päätteeksi saatiin DFL paita takaisin Kajaaniin! Hyvä me.
12. KevätKlassikko2009 Järjestyksessään kolmas KevätKlassikko ajettiin tuulisessa, mutta kuitenkin pääosin myötäisessä tuulessa Kainuun teillä. Viimevuodesta reittiä oltiin muutettu osittain helpommaksi lumen paljouden takia. Nousun päältä on suora yhteys banquetsaunaan.
Sama suoritus ylsi kaikkien 26km:n sarjojen kärkiajaksi. 52km:n sarjassa tuttuja hemmoja sijoittui myöskin tuloslistan yläpäähän.- Ari S Vuokatti MTB 2009 –tapahtumaan osallistuneet PMK-naamat:Toni Shnoro, MTB 26km pojat, 1:15:35 (1. sija)Jukka Kuusela, MTB 26km, 1:36:05 (10.)Ari Karjalainen, MTB 26km, 1:57:18 (30.)Mika Oikarinen, MTB 26km, 1:57:18 (31.)Juha Moilanen, MTB 26km, 1:57:59 (32.)Ari Saksala, MTB, 26km, 2:02:10 (35.)Kimmo Ovaska, MTB 52km, 2:29:27 (5.)Jukka Puustinen, MTB 52km, 2:39.02 (11.)Pasi Kärki, MTB 52km, 2:58:48 (22.)Petri Pekkarinen, MTB 52km, 3:40:40 (62.)
Kajaanin oma Bic Mac vastasi kesän kahdesta nopeimmasta tuloksesta, joista jälkimmäisessä vattimittari kertoi omaa tarinaansa 470W keskitehosta.. Kovien ajajien tuloksista voi jokainen halutessaan ihmetellä omaa tasoaan varsinkin jos on kilpailut mielessä. Omaa kuntoaan seuraavan on taas helppoa seurata kesän aikana omaa kehitystään. Loistava paketti siis kaikille tasoon katsomatta. Kesällä 2010 nähdään varmasti uudestaan Paltaniemen suoralla.
19. KESÄ, VIMPELI SIX HOUR MTB 09 @ VIMPELIKajaanin Vimpelissä lauantaina 25.7 järjestetty Vimpeli Six Hour MTB -tapahtuma keräsi yli 60 maastopyöräilijää. Mukana oli niin aloittelijoita kuin kokeneempia kisakuskejakin. Rataa kierrettiin ahkerasti aina kello 18:aan saakka laskurin näyttäessä kovimman kuskin kohdalla 12:ta kierrosta . Tapahtuma onnistui yli odotusten.
25. SYKSY, We´re Lost in Paska Kaupunni 09@ OuluOululaisten yksivaihde-kaverien järkkäämä kaupunkisuunnistushässäkkä järjestettiin 19.syyskuuta Oulussa. Kajaanista paikalle kurvaili jo hyvissä ajoin kaksikko Pete & Myy.
26. SYKSY, CYCLOCROSS SYKSY09@ KajaaniSyksy on perinteisesti cyclocross pyöräilyn aikaa. Seuraavassa hieman tunnelmia kisasta: Bitches Park, Syyspäiväntasaus CC 1h 1,7km/kierros. Tulokset: Mikko Myy (13 kier.) Mikko Kejo Pasi Kärki Antti Kyllönen Jukka Kemppainen Ari Karjalainen Hessu Mikko Halinen (+kuvat) Jussi Koivuniemi
Tulokset: Juha Kangaskokko (10 kier.) Jukka Puusinen (9) Janne Karhu (9) Kimmo Ovaska (9) Jarkko Kaattari (8) Pekka Huttunen (8) Jarko Hyvönen (8) Heli Ovaska (8) Petri Matero (8) Jarkko Kantola (8) Petri Pekkarinen (8) Ari Karjalainen (8) Juha Moilanen (7) Marika Moilanen (7) Jarmo Kämäräinen (7) Ari Saksala (6) Ville Matikkala (6) Toni Shnoro (5) Saara Uusiheimala (3).
29. SYKSY, CCCUP cyclocross cup 3/3 09@ KajaaniKolmas ja cc cupin filaanit käytiin puoliksi urbaanissa ympäristössä Myyn takapihalla Teppanassa. Reitille mahtui paljon yksisuuntaista polkua, yksi pieni ylämäki, ihan vähän sohjoa ja paljon iloisia ajajia. Cyclocrossia siis parhaimmillaan. Oulusta saapui jo perjantai-iltana etujoukko, joten yölla reitille kaivetut kuopat olivat varmasti tarpeeksi syviä.
