What has happened to our Churches In the last 500 years?Big QuestionSimple Answer: Decline and even more so in the last 80 years .Now we are trying to stop the decline. In fact Canon Lunt started this 26 years ago when St Peter’s Ecumenical Centre first opened its doors. Two years ago we launched our Project. Last year we launched our appeal and opened the internet cafe. We have started to make waves and this is all down to our volunteers.

So what is the Plan?A simple four point solution to making us a great place to be.Planning for Success2020
Why only four solutions? Because the whole plan grows out from those four solutions. Planning for Success2020
Preserving our Ancient BuildingsOur ancient buildings are in a dire state of decline - a full solution using the latest technology, will make them warmer, more secure and happier places to be.We will prioritise the most urgent issues. We will review our energy consumption for the next one hundred years to minimise our environmental impact. New and inventive uses for our buildings must add value to them as well as conserving our national assets. We are also looking to share and learn from the Wrexham Open Church Network, and implement this in Cheshire West by around 2016. Solution 1
Sacred SpaceAs buildings of faith it is vital that we develop the faith aspects of our buildings. We want to increase the number of congregation, special services, weddings and baptisms. We aim to introduce a new Fresh Expression of Church at St Peter's called @TheCross.We are not just a tourist attraction, we are a church. We also aim to encourage outside organisations to use our space - for theatre, arts and community purposes. We will make our buildings easily accessible to all and also available to hire.We must promote and market our buildings to increase visitor numbers. We must also harness the potential of our volunteer team to ensure that they, and our visitors, are fully engaged with our buildings.Solution 2
Trading for Our FutureTrading for Our Future is vital for the future of our buildings.
We will introduce a more professional gift shop in St John's with unique, commissioned souvenirs and a Pilgrim's Rest area
We will maximise our revenue with all money generated – excluding admin and labour costs – re-invested back into the buildings
We aim to produce enough income to no longer be grant- or donor-led, by 2017
We have already started an IT Centre and will introduce a video/film-making project that will help us grow. We will be offering these services on open market Solution 3
ChesterLiving HistoryThis is a completely new programme offering to bring history alive from the 6th century to the 20th centuryOur buildings are connected to some of the most important events in the nation’s historyWe are developing a full programme of Living History events within St John's and St Peter's Some of these events will be free; some will be private functionsMost importantly there will be National Curriculum workshops for school groups of up to forty children at a time – taking part in marching, drumming, crafts, and staged combat – to feel and live historyWe will also bring history alive through new visitor interpretation, guide books, films, virtual toursWe also wish to play our part in promoting Chester as a tourist experience and heritage destinationSolution 4

fresh expressions of churchAs part of our Sacred Space solution we wish to launch a new type of Fresh Expression as part of the National Fresh Expressions campaignSt Peter’s has the unique position to be a drop-in church for drop-in prayer and a new form of conversation and worshipThe aim will be to make us a true mixed economy ParishThis will be a long haul programme and will be completely ecumenical in its expression – it is hoped that this will begin by 2012The Fresh Expression will be linked to our unique IT project with a light-touch approach. Our location right at the heart of the City, amongst all the shops, means we can put God on the High Street.
