Once inside, Jimmy noticed a wooden puppet carved in the
likeness of a little boy.
Jiminy Cricket, the great traveler,
was looking for somewhere to
spend the night. He found his way
to the workshop of the old wood
carver. Geppetto now alone, left
without any family in the world.
The puppet was nearly finished: only its eyebrows
and mouth were missing.
Then he said goodnight to the puppet, he names
Pinocchio. Geppetto sees the wishing star.
He wishes that Pinocchio could become a real boy.
Geppetto decides to put the final touches to the
puppet. He carefully painted on eyebrows and a
wide smiling
Upon retiring the Blue Fairy appears!
She said: “Little Puppet, the gift of the life is
Yours.” Pinocchio stretched his arms and
legs
The Blue Fairy spots Jiminy
Cricket: “Pinocchio must know
right from wrong! Jiminy Cricket.
I name you Pinocchio’s
conscience! And with that she
disappeared.
“I am alive” he
exclaimed. “Prove
yourself brave,
truthful and unselfish”
the Blue Fairy told
him. “and someday
you’ll turn into a real
boy” Pinocchio
looked at his human
hands and felt
delight.
Behold, on awaking Geppetto finds
Pinocchio alive. Geppetto becomes
overwhelmed with joy and love. He now a
Father has a Son.
“I think we shall call him Pinocchio”
Geppetto said to his companions Figaro the
kitten and Cleo the Goldfish.
Geppetto said: “Tomorrow you must go to
school to learn things and become a real
little boy”
Geppetto couldn’t believe his
happiness. Pinocchio- a real boy!
Geppetto sends Pinocchio into the world to
school. A fatherly concern “do not talk to
strangers”
Pinocchio has his new conscience. His naivete
faces a hostile world gullible.
Skipping school, he meets a crafty fox named
Honest John. He wants Pinocchio to join
Stromboli’s puppet theatre. Pinocchio was very
interested and wouldn’t listen to Jiminy Cricket
who told him not to go
That evening Pinocchio sang
and danced at the puppet
theatre.
The audience roared with laughter
and clapped. Pinocchio becomes
very proud. Stromboli now sees
him as his star attraction.
“I want to go and tell my father” he
said. “You are not going anywhere”
the puppet-master told Pinocchio,
and then he threw poor Pinocchio
into the cage.
Jiminy finds Pinocchio in a cage. The
Blue Fairy appeared. “Why didn’t you
go to school?” she asked. Pinocchio
tells a lie. Each time he tells a new lie,
his nose grows longer.
Finally, Pinocchio said: “I’ll never lie
again”. The Blue Fairy restores his
nose and frees him. Always tell the
truth or his nose would grow.
Achieve success through pretense. Be one who is seen to do things as a
puppet on stage. Becomes a crowd-pleaser and a conformist.
After he abandons his conscience, Pinocchio discovers that he has been
imprisoned by Stromboli. Stromboli appeals to Pinocchio weak will. It
cannot say No! to the longing for prestige and pride
To Review: Pinocchio’s
First Temptation: Pride of Life
Second Temptation Two: Deceit – Lie
The Blue Fairy comes to rescue him. Pinocchio brazenly lies. He
fails to take responsibility for his downfall. His nose grows.
Everyone sees it but finally himself. Should he be allowed to
suffer the consequences of his lying and naïve arrogance?
Our conscious comes alive as we leave childhood. The child within us
seeks to remain in charge. We hear our conscious. We sense its
magnetic tug. It whispers the right decisions to make. Jiminey
Crickett alludes to Jesus Christ nudging us to do this. We have a
loving Father who gives us freedom. Each of us have different levels
of naivete. Being gullible, we eventually trust the wrong people. We
do the wrong thing. Allured by pride, selfishness, and prestige we
pretend. We put on an act. This publicly brings injury and risks
ridicule to ourself. We end up lying to ourself and others to excuse
our bad behavior. So be careful.
