This document discusses several natural weathering processes that break down rock over time including freezing and thawing which causes plants and roots to wedge into cracks, exfoliation which is the peeling off of rock layers, abrasion where rocks rub against each other, and chemical weathering from oxygen, acids, and carbon dioxide that react with rock material.
