These are powders used for less potent drugs. These are
powders supplied in bulk or large quantities. They are
intended for internal or external use.

6. ADVANTAGES OF PHARMACUETICAL
POWDERS
 Powders are more stable than liquid dosage form.
 Useful for bulky drugs with large dose.
 Example:Indigestion Powder
 Easy to swallow even in large bulk especially when mixed with drink
food(useful for stomach-tubefeeding)
 The smaller particle size of powders causes more rapid dissolution in body
fluids,druf bioavailability and decrease gastric irritation compare with tablets.

7. DISADVANTAGES OF PHARMACEUTICAL
POWDERS
 Time consuming preparation.
 Inaccuracy of dose(Size of measuring spoon, density of
powder,humidity,degree of settling).
 Unsuitablity of many unpleasant tasting hygroscopic and
deliquescent.
 Patient may misunderstand the correct method of use without clear
instructions.ie Patient may inhale through the nose intended for oral
administration.

8. CONCLUSION
 Powder dosage form are versatile flexible in a dosage
strength relatively stable and also convenient to
manufacture,store,handle and use.
 It is possible to reduce than to desired particle size
and thus facilitate rapid absorption.Thus from
biopharmaceutical consideration powder are
convenient and useful for prescribing drug.
 Power flow is also crucial during mixing,packaging
and transportation.
 Reduction in process cost and maintaining the
quality and consistency of the final product.
