Penstemon is a huge genus of native American plants, with over 280 species. There is a species for almost every garden niche: tall, short, arid, moist, hot cold, anything but deep shade. Penstemons are inherit survivors, and require very little effort to grow.

The Detroit Zoo is hosting a new event called Wild Lights where the zoo grounds are illuminated with thousands of lights displays, sculptures, and illuminated animal images. Visitors can walk through the zoo after hours to see the lights and there will also be live music and seasonal food and drinks available. Photographer Ryn Gargulinski has taken photos of some of the light displays and sculptures that will be part of the Wild Lights event at the Detroit Zoo this holiday season.
