The Higher Education Sectors Travel Risk Event. 12
The Travel Risk Event dedicated to NGOs, International Development and Humanitarian Government Bodies.
Following the success of Education without Borders in the UK, we go to Boston in April 2017.
The Travel Risk Industry is maturing and evolving faster than ever before. The risks we face are complex, the goal posts of the ‘reasonably foreseeable’ shift, risk ratings can be
turned on their heads, and the choice in partners, providers and solutions is abundant when once it was not. What lies ahead for the industry in the next five years, how do we stay
ahead of the curve and who should we be looking to for the best and most innovative support?
An intensive one-day course that covers all areas of Duty of Care fulfilment in one day. You may be new to Travel Risk or you may be a practitioner in one discipline but want to
know more about other fields. Across key pillars of learning such as ‘Financial Mitigation’, ‘The Law’, ‘What is Assistance’, ‘Travel Policy & Partners’ and ‘Understanding Geo-
Politics’, the course is designed to ensure you can take a confident and informed seat at your next Travel Risk meeting.

don’t just help avoid a worst case scenario they can also have a

12. Event 1.
Join McMillan Cooper to debate the risks and rewards of your sector’s
international activities.
Our experts will draw upon real world case studies and explore how the risks
posed by international travel, study abroad and international research field-trips
can be addressed, what the role is of each department in the mitigation of these
risks and how they are combated with academic freedom and growth at the
heart of your institution’s international activity.
Among other areas, we will delve into and discuss topics such as mental health
in overseas study, mass evacuation during high profile events, convergent risks
within higher education, insurance & assistance models and managing high risk
and remote PHD research.
Drawing upon the success of 2015’s inaugural event, this forum will bring
together policy makers, health and safety professionals, security professionals,
insurance officers, legal teams, occupational health teams and international &
study abroad offices from universities and colleges from across the world.

15. Event 2.
In this inaugural event, ‘Borderless 2017’ will bring together NGOs,
international development organisations and humanitarian
government bodies to discuss the unique challenges they face when
mitigating risk in international operations.
The programme of events will drive the opportunity to share best practice, build
working relationships with your peers, unite behind common initiatives and
priorities and to form one voice to the suppliers and providers of insurance,
travel, legal, risk, assistance and emergency response services.
In recent years the safety and security of international aid workers has become
a prominent issue, as humanitarian aid workers are increasingly being seen as
targets. According to Humanitarian Outcomes 2015 saw 287 aid workers become
the victims of attack and 109 tragically lose their lives.
During the conference our expert speakers will use real life case studies to
separate enduring myth from inconvenient reality and to illuminate the space in
which the different approaches and appetites for risk that exist amongst us, must
all still reach the same end goal of ensuring our people come home safe and well.

20. Event 4.
The world of Travel Risk Management is changing. On one side the
risks we face, what is ‘reasonably foreseeable’ and the goal posts of
best practice are shifting, on the other side the providers, solutions,
products and services available are maturing, evolving and choice is
abundant where once it was not.
Where is it all going? What does the next five years hold? What can we expect on
the horizon of geo-political and health risks and what is coming to the market to
help us meet these challenges?
Is what we do, as big businesses today, good enough for tomorrow? Or are we
all still implementing the ideas of yesterday where actually some key shifts in
approach are needed?
If you take a seat at the table of how your organisation mitigates and reacts to
international travel risks, this is a must attend event. Join us to discuss topics such
as those listed below, and please register your interest to be kept informed.

• Risk Outlook: What lies ahead in the short and medium term on the Geo-Political
horizon.
• Technology Forecast: What technology lies ahead in the next five years that will
assist us in our goal of every business traveller returning safe and well. Tracking,
Medical, Transportation, Communication and Security technology all play a part,
but all have unique cultural challenges in relation to their implementation and
adoption.
• Evolving Assistance: How is the Assistance industry evolving, what are the new
models, approaches, tools, products and services out there. What are the latest
partnerships leading the market in cost effective, people orientated solutions?
• Latest Legals: Legal precedence and the ever evolving Duty of Care
• Apples & Apples? What does it really take to perform a complex and evolving
medical evacuation, and how many of those who include ‘Medevac’ on their
brochures, can actually perform one?

‘Duty of Care’, ‘Travel Risk Management’; call it what you will, but
one fact is certainly true, it’s complicated. In short, to be able to truly
have confidence in all areas of discussion, you need to be an expert and
aware of best practice in Insurance, Travel Policy, Risk Management,
Assistance Services, Occupational Health, Pre Departure Preparations,
Evacuation Processes, Business Continuity, Global Medical Capabilities,
shifting Geo-Political Risks, Endemic Health Risks and global Security
Threats, and if you’ve only just been given responsibility for some or all
of it, you’ve got quite the task on your hands.
Not to mention the fact that the guys and girls from your current providers all come
at the problems and solutions from slightly, or very different angles and tend to
confuse, rather than clarify. Sound familiar…?
‘Duty of Care: In a Day’ is a one day course led by experienced professionals who
aim to introduce you to each area of consideration and give you a ‘behind the scenes’
look at how things really work. Beyond the marketing collateral and converging and
often conflicting needs of each department, it takes a step back to broaden your
understanding of each ‘pillar’ of Travel Risk and ensure your own part in your
organisation’s response to fulfilling Duty of Care is well informed.
