Spot polyethylene prices in Asia are expected to rebound in the fourth quarter due to seasonal demand increases. However, weaker regional economies, currency devaluations, falling feedstock prices, and new PE plant startups may limit upside. PE inventories are currently low across Asia with limited spot buying amid weak demand and declines in equity markets. Additionally, the overall health of the Asian economy remains poor, putting downward pressure on buying appetite for PE as China's PMI fell in August. New PE capacities coming online in Asia and the Middle East in the fourth quarter will also likely add pressure to any price increase trend.
