Charles Darwin visited the Galapagos Islands located in the Pacific Ocean west of Ecuador and Colombia. During his visit in 1835, Darwin observed unique wildlife species across the isolated volcanic islands of the archipelago. His observations of the variations of finch beaks and tortoise shells on different islands informed his theory of evolution by natural selection.
