How to E-file Form 2290 for
New Vehicle?
If you owe taxes, there are
several payment methods
currently accepted by the
IRS to pay for HVUT tax

Payment options to pay HVUT form 2290
When E-Filing Form 2290 for Heavy Vehicle Use Tax with
ExpressTruckTax you have 3 options for paying any tax amounts due:
 Electronic Funds Withdrawal (efw) using your bank routing
number and bank account number,
 Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (eftps) by visiting
EFTPS.gov,
 or Voucher option where by mailing in a check or money order.
Each payment method is processed directly by the US Treasury.
Regardless of the payment method you choose you can still receive your
Stamped Schedule 1 via email within minutes of your return being
accepted by the IRS because you have either paid or made an electronic
promise to pay the taxes due. You will choose your payment option
during the process of E-Filing your Form 2290.
Please note that credit cards cannot be used to make tax payments
because the IRS does not accept this payment method for 2290s at this
time.

ELECTRONIC FUNDS WITHDRAWAL (EFW)
Features and Benefits of Electronic Funds Withdrawal:
 It's convenient. Individual and business filers can e-file and e-pay in a
single step.
 It's free, but check with your financial institution about any fees it may
charge.
 It’s safe and secure. Payment information is used only for the tax
payment(s) authorized.
 Bank account information is safeguarded.
 Payment information will not be disclosed for any reason other than
for processing authorized payment transactions.
 For Form 2290 the electronic payment will be effective (i.e., settled)
on the date the return or form is e-filed.
 After the return due date, the effective date for EFW payments is the
date the return or form is successfully transmitted.
 A separate payment record is required for each estimated payment.
 The bank account information can be the same or different for each
payment entered.

How to Make an Electronic Funds Withdrawal Payment?
 Use commercial software or a Paid Preparer, to e-file your federal
tax return, and at the same time, use EFW to make your
payment(s).
 Upon selection of the electronic funds withdrawal option, a
payment record will display for entry of payment information.
 Enter your financial institution's routing transit number and
account number. Check with your financial institution to confirm
these numbers.
 Select the type of account from which the payment is to be
debited (checking or savings).
 Enter the amount of your payment.
 Penalty and/or interest can be added to your balance due payment.
Some commercial software will compute these amounts or they can
be computed manually. Or you can wait and be billed for any
applicable penalty and/or interest you may owe.
 Electronic funds withdrawal payments cannot be initiated after the
return or form is filed.

ELECTRONIC FEDERAL TAX PAYMENT SYSTEM (EFTPS)
The Easiest Way to Pay All Your Federal Taxes
EFTPS is a system for paying federal taxes electronically using the
Internet, or by phone using the EFTPS Voice Response System. EFTPS is
offered free by the U.S. Department of Treasury.
Over 12 million taxpayers are currently enrolled in the system. Since
EFTPS began in 1996, there have been over 1.28 billion electronic
payments made, totaling over $26.7 trillion!
It’s a digital age and the business world is changing accordingly. As
technology is rapidly changing, it is important to choose an E-File
Provider that is safe and secure, and can keep up with these constant
changes.

Security You Can Count On..
EFTPS is a secure government website that allows users to make federal
tax payments electronically. Every user must have a secure Internet
browser with 128-bit encryption in order to access the site.
To log on to the system, an enrolled user must be authenticated with
three pieces of unique information: Taxpayer Identification Number (EIN
or SSN), EFTPS Personal Identification Number (PIN) and an Internet
Password. The combination of these three pieces of identification adds to
the security of the site and the privacy of taxpayer data.
Convenience at Your Fingertips
 EFTPS offers you the convenience and flexibility of making your tax
payments via the Internet or phone. You can initiate your tax payment
from your home or office, 24/7.
 Schedule tax payments in advance. Businesses can schedule payments
up to 120 days in advance. Individuals can schedule payments up to
365 days in advance. Scheduled payments can be changed or
cancelled up to two business days in advance of the scheduled
payment date.
 You can use EFTPS to make all your federal tax payments, including
income, employment, estimated and excise taxes.

 You can check up to 16 months of your EFTPS payment history online
or by calling EFTPS Customer Service.
Accuracy You Can Depend On
By 8 p.m. ET at least one calendar day in advance of the due date, submit
your payment instructions to EFTPS to move the funds from your
account to the Treasury's account for payment of your federal taxes.
Funds will not move from your account until the date you indicate. You
will receive an immediate acknowledgement of your payment
instructions, and your bank statement will confirm the payment was
made.

Check or Money Order
 You can also send the tax dues by Check or Money Order. If you use
this method, please print the completed payment voucher 2290-V
page 5 of the completed form 2290).
 Do not send cash. Make your check or money order payable to the
United States Treasury. Write your name, address, EIN, “IRS Form
2290,” and the date (as entered in Box 3) on your payment.
 Detach the payment voucher 2290-V and send it with your payment. If
you have filed electronically, do not send IRS Form 2290 and Schedule
1 with the payment voucher.
 Do not staple your payment to the voucher or IRS Form 2290.
