This document discusses patient confidentiality and privacy in a healthcare setting. It outlines how patient records and files should be kept private from unauthorized access. Patients have a right to privacy and control over who can access their personal health information. Staff must be properly trained on security and privacy policies to avoid breaches that could result in federal penalties like fines, jail time, or lawsuits. Managers have a responsibility to enforce training and prevent situations that violate a patient's confidentiality.

2. Confidentiality
• It is a way to keep records
and files safe from those
other than the patient from
seeing.
• Patients have right to their
privacy and can let anyone
see them on their own
terms
• There could be a federal
offense if someone
disrespect their wishes.
3. Security and Privacy
• Never use someone else’s
passcode
• Stop worrying about
other patients
• Read the policy
procedure for privacy
• Only look at files that are
for you to look at
•
4. Training
• It’s important to train
staff to:
• Be honest and work as a
team
• Stay focused on their job
and no one else job
• Have control
• Have respect for patients
5. Cameras
• They should always be on
• Cameras should be checked daily
• If conflict occur then law enforcement should be on
duty
• Cameras are the truth
6. Punishment
• Anyone who invades a
patient’s file can be punished
in the following ways:
• Suspended
• Go to jail
• Have a law suit filed against
them
• Fired from their job
7. Manager Duties
• I would try to avoid the situation that happen in the article to
the best of my ability.
• I would be a good manager and make sure training staff about
policy procedures on security and privacy were strictly
enforced!
