The document discusses patient-centered care, which involves active patient involvement in medical decisions. There are three foundational models: the Commonwealth Dimensions model focuses on respecting patient values and needs; the Family-Centered Care model emphasizes dignity, information sharing, and collaboration; the Planetree model focuses on spirituality and a healing environment. Patient-centered care leads to higher patient satisfaction, lower costs, shorter hospital stays, and improved health outcomes.
